Conde owns a villa in São Paulo
He has been trying to sell the property for more than a decade, but no one has shown interest in completing the deal.
Where does Chiquinho Scarpa’s fortune come from?
Francisco Scarpa Filho is the son of businessman Francisco Scarpa and socialite Patsy Scarpa. Since his birth, Chiquinho has lived in the villa, which he is now trying to sell, and has always led a wealthy life. His father had a Picasso painting and a RollsRoyce at home. He also loved parties and stayed in a suite at the luxurious Plaza Athénée Hotel whenever he visited Paris for decades.
As a child, Chiquinho Scarpa always traveled to Europe with his family aboard an ocean liner. They had a dairy cow that was milked in the basement whenever the little children asked for a bottle.
It all starts with Chiquinho’s grandfather, the Italian immigrant Nicolau Scarpa. He was the founder of the Caracu Brewery, owner of several companies and a key shareholder in the early days of the Votorantim Group. He was also the owner of Skol and was proud to have launched the first canned beer in Brazil.
Born in Gioi, a small Italian town in the province of Salerno in the Campania region, Nicolau came to Brazil in 1888 at the age of just ten with his parents and accompanied by his brother Domenico Scarpa. Nicolau died on September 26, 1942.
The family settled in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, where Francisco Scarpa, Chiquinho’s father, was born, who inherited his father’s fortune and owned forty farms as well as a sugar factory, a metallurgical factory and a textile factory.
