Russian oil is transported through Kazakhstan on its way to China

As the leader of the Central Asian state told the media before the visit of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Russia and Kazakhstan also have a long and fruitful cooperation in the oil sector, with companies such as Lukoil and Tatneft successfully operating on Kazakh soil.

Tokayev noted that the transportation of oil through the territories of both countries “occupies an important role” in the fuel and energy complex.

“About 80 percent of Kazakh oil is exported to foreign markets through Russian territory (through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium),” the president stressed.

“Similarly, Russian oil is supplied to China through the territory of Kazakhstan,” he said.

The president said his country wants to make the most of its transit potential and is ready to further expand the transportation of Russian gas.

He added that the gas industry plays a special role in the sustainable socio-economic progress of both countries.

In particular, he emphasized that the transit of Russian gas through Kazakh territory to Uzbekistan, which began on October 7, will strengthen regional and energy security in Central Asia, give a strong boost to industrial development and improve the business climate.

He also stated that this project will contribute to the expansion and modernization of the national transport infrastructure.

Tokayev also explained that the agreement with the Russian company Gazprom, signed on November 1 during the International Gas Forum in St. Petersburg, is aimed at developing and implementing long-term plans “with a horizon of up to 15 years.”
