A few days ago, Nintendo launched Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Nintendo Switch, a new episode of the saga that represents a very nice return to basics with its 2D orientation. A “new Mario” is always an event in the video game market, but we don’t have to wait long for the arrival of a new game starring Nintendo’s famous mustachioed hero. In fact, a certain Super Mario RPG will be available in stores very soon. We’ll explain everything to you.

Super Mario RPG, waiting for testing
The Super Mario RPG game was released on Super Nintendo in March 1996 and was developed in collaboration with Square. And if the latter doesn’t mean anything to you, that’s “normal” since Super Mario RPG was only released in Japan and the USA. Since then, the game has been available to European players via the virtual console, the Super Nintendo Mini, but also the Nintendo Switch and its online program.
Back then, the game was developed on Silicon Graphics workstations (like Donkey Kong Country) to model the characters and locations in polygonal 3D and then convert everything to 2D according to the Super Nintendo’s capabilities.
However, be careful not to think that the upcoming Super Mario RPG is a platformer that can follow in the footsteps of the recent Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The genres are completely different. This is a role-playing game with turn-based combat (Final Fantasy style) that will spawn another very popular saga, Paper Mario.
When will the Super Mario RPG remake be released?
Super Mario RPG was released in Japan in March 1996 and in the United States in May of the same year and was never offered on the Super Nintendo in Europe. Unlike the original game, the Nintendo Switch remake will of course be available internationally. Phew!

As for availability, the game will be marketed from November 17th. The game will benefit from updated graphics as well as various adjustments to modernize the recipe. Nevertheless, the game should retain a small “retro” element in order to remain true to the original DNA. Note that the game will be fully localized in French.
Where can you play Super Mario RPG?
Nintendo license required, this new Super Mario RPG can only be played on Nintendo Switch. Regardless of which Nintendo Switch model you own, you can take full advantage of this update to the adventures of Mario and his gang.

In the meantime, if you want to discover the original work, you will have to restart the good old Super Famicom or Super NES US or, more simply, download the game from the Nintendo Switch via the Super Nintendo section (assuming you are). if you have subscribed to the online service). The game can also be found in the US version on the Super Nintendo Mini.
Price and collector’s edition
The Super Mario RPG game for Nintendo Switch is available at the publisher price of €59.99 on the eShop Store and the Nintendo Store. Of course, it’s possible to find the latest from Nintendo at cheaper prices through certain resellers.

Super Mario RPG is offered in a standard version and will not benefit from a collector’s edition. Unlike the recent Super Mario Bros. Marvel, the game was not eligible for a limited edition release on the Nintendo Switch.

However, for pre-orders, some resellers offer first-time buyers a small bonus, namely a special keychain. [comp_link id=22667]This is particularly the case with FNAC[/comp_link]. In the official Nintendo Store, we also offer an acrylic holder free of charge in addition to the key ring for all pre-orders.
Super Mario RPG, what’s the story?
During another confrontation between Mario and Bowser, a giant sword (Exor) falls from the sky into the Koopa King’s castle, throwing Mario, Bowser and Princess Peach into the surrounding area and scattering seven mysterious stars.
The story follows Mario and his teammates who are determined to eliminate Forgeroi, the main antagonist of this adventure, who has stolen the seven stars of the Star Road, a road where all wishes are fulfilled. Throughout the adventure we will of course play as Mario, but also Peach, Mallow, Geno or even… Bowser. Each member of the team of course has their own special attacks, with the added bonus of fights that require a certain sense of rhythm to increase the power of the attacks.
See you on November 17th for this Super Mario RPG. A full test follows Press Citron.
