2023 All MLB Team Nominees by Position – MLBcom

2023 All-MLB Team Nominees by Position – MLB.com

It’s time for fans to make their voices heard and decide which players should be named to the 2023 All-MLB team.

The All-MLB honors, first created in 2019, recognize the best player or players at each position in the majors from the previous season, for both the first and second teams. The nominations were announced on Wednesday and fans can vote every 24 hours at mlb.com/allmlb from now until November 19th at 8 p.m. ET. (The ballot will also be available in Spanish at lasmayores.com/todomlb.)

Half of the selection process is voted on by fans, while the other 50% comes from a high-profile panel of media representatives, broadcasters, former players and other in-game officials. Winners will be announced on December 16 during MLB Network’s All-MLB Team Show, presented by MGM Rewards.

When casting their ballot, voters are asked to consider only performance during the regular season. Each team consists of one selection each at catcher, first base, second base, shortstop, third base and DH, as well as three outfielders (regardless of the specific outfield position), five starting pitchers and two relievers.

Fans are asked to narrow down a candidate list that includes 72 position players (nine catchers, seven first basemen, eight second basemen, nine shortstops, 10 third basemen, eight designated hitters and 21 outfielders) and 50 pitchers (26 starters and 24 relievers).

The Astros are the only team with double-digit prospects, and for Houston the split was even with five position players and five pitchers. Those candidates are second baseman Jose Altuve; third baseman Alex Bregman; designated hitter Yordan Alvarez; outfielders Kyle Tucker and Chas McCormick; starting pitchers Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez; and reserves Ryan Pressley, Bryan Abreu and Hector Neris. Houston edged Atlanta, which led NL teams with nine nominees, including an MLB-best player at seven positions.

The list of nominees includes 57 players who were All-Stars in 2023 and 44 who have earned All-MLB honors in the past, including 20 from last year (12 first-team selections and nine second-team selections , with two-way star Shohei). Ohtani chose both). This is Ohtani’s third consecutive season where he has been named to multiple positions. In 2021 he was a first-team DH and a second-team starting pitcher, and in 2022 he changed that position.

Two other themes surrounding the 2023 All-MLB nominees are youth and international heritage. Six rookies and 20 players age 25 or younger were nominated, as were 45 players born in nine countries and territories outside the 50 U.S. states.

Another storyline to keep an eye on in the All-MLB voting is whether the Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman can beat the Braves’ Matt Olson and the rest of the nominees at first base. Freeman is the only player selected to each of the four previous All-MLB squads (either first or second team), and that streak could reach five in 2023.
