A 50-year-old from Pennsylvania who struggled to make ends meet after her husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer has won the $3 million jackpot that will allow the couple to enjoy their final moments.
“It was a really long fight […] We were worried about how we would be able to pay our bills at the beginning of the year. One of the biggest dreams [de mon mari], is supposed to go to Alaska. So we go to Alaska. “We will travel, make memories and take care of our family,” said 50-year-old Penny Reep, according to CBS News, when presenting a symbolic check last Thursday.
Two weeks earlier, the woman had made a quick stop at a Rummy Mart supermarket in Chicora, Pennsylvania, on her way to the dentist when she allegedly decided to buy two scratch-off tickets.
Except the fifty-year-old, described by her loved ones as a woman who gives without ever expecting anything in return, couldn’t have believed her eyes when she realized she had just won $3 million on one of her tickets , according to local media.
“I grabbed the counter and started crying,” she continued.
The amount allows the woman to enjoy every moment and to pamper her partner Patrick, who suffers from “very rare and incurable” cancer, she told “CBS News” with tears in her eyes. In particular, she wants to help him realize his dream of traveling to Alaska.
“We don’t know how long he has left to live. He is no longer able to work and I try to take care of him, but I also have health problems,” she continued, hand in hand in front of her partner.
Apart from the trip and the purchase of a new pickup truck for their partner, the couple is not planning any extravagance, but simply wants to invest the amount.
“But now we will have memories that will last a lifetime,” the woman concluded gratefully.
