Rue Fradet: The new measures are in force – L’Express – L’Express – Drummondville

TRAFFIC. As announced at the end of the summer, the City of Drummondville replaced the one-way system on Fradet and Daniel streets with a number of other measures, always with the aim of reducing speed and traffic flow.

The biggest changes are the introduction of extended speed bumps and stops in all directions, as well as reducing the speed to 40 km/h in the neighborhood. Additionally, a sign at the intersection of Fradet Street and Des Chutes Boulevard alerts drivers to the new speed limit and sends a clear message with a humorous twist. It says: “Distracted, in a hurry, stressed? Be careful on public roads. Calm the rabbit in you!”

Several other adjustments were made, such as installing rapidly flashing rectangular lights and rearranging road markings at certain intersections. Finally, as promised, police surveillance will be increased.

The aim, as you know, is to reduce the flow of traffic on local roads, thus encouraging motorists to use the collector roads, Mercure and Des Chutes boulevards, in a natural way.

In 2019, about sixty residents of Rue Fradet, concerned about their safety, called on the city to find solutions to reduce traffic flow. After conducting a traffic study, the city implemented the one-way street pilot project, which caused discontent among many residents in the area. They believed the city was on the wrong track, although they observed several safety issues in the area. They banded together to demand a different solution. A petition was even started at the end of July this year. Specifically, 75% of industry respondents were against setting up a pilot project. Due to a lack of support from affected citizens, the City of Drummondville has decided not to extend the project in its current form and to implement the measures currently in place.
