MADRID, Nov 9 (Portal) – The former head of Spain’s Popular Party in the Catalonia region was shot in the face in Madrid on Thursday, police said.
Alejo Vidal-Quadras was shot and taken to hospital around 1:30 p.m. in the affluent Salamanca district of central Madrid.
Spanish police said they were hunting two men riding a black Yamaha motorcycle in connection with the shooting. The gunman, who was wearing a helmet, stopped and got out to shoot Vidal-Quadras.
After the shooting, both men fled on a motorcycle.
Vidal-Quadras, 78, was leader of the center-right PP party in Catalonia and a member of the far-right Vox party.
“I would like to convey my solidarity and wishes for a speedy recovery to Alejo Vidal-Quadras. “At this time, all my affection goes out to him and his family,” Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez posted on social media on Thursday.
Police have cordoned off the area where the shooting occurred. There have been no arrests so far, the police said.
