Government recognizes “extremely complicated” situation in Peru

Lima, November 9 (Prensa Latina) Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otárola acknowledged today that this year has been very complicated for his country’s economy, but assured that it will experience a recovery in 2024 due to the potential.

In a press conference, the President of the Council of Ministers said his official position was that the year had been “extremely complicated” due to natural disasters, health crises and social protests unleashed since the beginning of President Dina Boluarte’s term in office.

He added that such a situation requires the resilience of the population and all sectors affected by exogenous factors that have impacted the macroeconomy with the decline in gross domestic product (GDP) and economic recession.

He predicted that after the El Niño phenomenon, the rains and floods in March and April, there would be an upturn in the economy, according to the Central Bank’s forecasts, to which would be added very important investments in mining, a star activity of the National economy along with agricultural exports.

He claimed that the executive is preparing an investment plan for infrastructure works that will enable the revival of the economy, without giving figures.

On the other hand, he denied that the president’s brother, Nicanos Boluarte, was involved in corruption cases, as a television report suggested, pointing out that he managed the financing of a municipality after receiving the local mayor at his home.

He also confirmed that tomorrow expires the deadline given to irregular foreign migrants, mainly Venezuelans, to legalize their stay in the country. After that, the authorities will take the appropriate measures, namely the expulsion of those who have not completed the procedure.
