“The Marvels”: superheroines who don’t fly high!

Brie Larson returns to her Captain Marvel costume for new intergalactic adventures whose only virtue is being amusing, if not interesting.

Let’s immediately forget about the wave of hate that Brie Larson has faced online since she was chosen for the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. The Oscar-winning actress was outstanding in the 2019 feature film of the same name.

Four years later we find her in Marvel, a kind of nonsense comedy in which she teams up – by force and not by choice – with Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), two other superheroines with whom she alternates Place as soon as she uses her superpowers.

Since logic isn’t Marvel’s strong suit, we also learn that Kamala Khan has a magical bracelet in her possession that is actively sought by Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), the evil Kree who wants revenge on Danvers. We also find out almost by chance that our heroine is now married to Prince Yan (Park See-joon) from the planet Aladna – the scenes in question are also extremely ridiculous, as these aliens only speak by singing.

Yes, and it is one of the best moments of this fortunately very short feature film at 105 minutes: We find Goose, the Flerken cat adopted by Carol. The Red Cat has some fun surprises in store for viewers, including several scenes that are guaranteed to spark laughter and emotions.

Seriously: With Marvel, the superhero company is aimed at young people who have followed the television series WandaVision and Ms Marvel, while the production is peppered with absurd humor that is less likeable than that of Taika Waititi’s Thor and less intelligent than that of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel hits theaters on November 10th.
