It can pick apples, generate images and texts and even detect diseases such as blood poisoning and thus even save lives. Since the beginning of the year, reports about artificial intelligence have exploded. Thomas Hartung also uses AI in his research. At Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, he is developing so-called cerebral organoids, which are, so to speak, miniature brains grown in the laboratory from groups of human cells and trained with AI. If Hartung gets what he wants, they could reform brain research and help find the causes of diseases like Alzheimer’s and autism.
