Israeli rescue teams evacuate injured people near the city of Sderot on October 7, 2023, after Hamas’ large-scale attack.
ISRAEL/HAMAS – This is an important announcement from the Israeli army this Friday, November 10th. In fact, the IDF has reduced the death toll from the first Hamas attack on its territory on October 7 from 1,400 to 1,200.
Israeli authorities have “updated” this report because they now believe that “many of the bodies that were not identified” are of people involved in “the Hamas terrorist attack, rather than Israeli victims,” it said in a statement to AFP Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Haiat.
However, in the evening the ministry withdrew its initial statements. “This is an updated estimate,” Lior Haiat said in a new statement, which did not provide an explanation for the new figure.
“Hamas terrorists murdered around 1,200 people in cold blood and kidnapped 240, including babies, children, women and the elderly,” the statement said.
More than 11,000 dead in the Gaza Strip
The previous figure of 1,400 was gradually reached in the week after the attacks and has remained stable since then.
The Israeli army also reports 37 dead soldiers since the ground offensive began.
This Friday, Hamas’ Health Ministry announced that 11,078 people, including 4,506 children, have been killed in Israeli bombings of the Gaza Strip since the start of the war.
