During the meeting the day before, the head of Angola’s diplomacy commented to the UN Secretary-General on the decisions taken on the issue at the last extraordinary summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo was the focus of the analysis of the meeting held in Luanda on November 4th, which addressed the humanitarian and security issue arising from the resumption of attacks and the occupation of parts of the territory the Democratic Republic of Congo worsened March 23 movement.
This Friday, the Chancellor also held working discussions with the President of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis.
Both parties discussed issues related to the work agenda of the General Assembly as well as Angola’s main priorities in this international organization.
On this occasion, the Angolan Minister reported on his country’s continued commitment to the search for peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, with particular attention to the issue of security in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He also addressed Angola’s mediation in the political crisis between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda in his capacity as Acting President of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (Cirgl) and SADC.
He reiterated that his country defends multilateralism to address common challenges, the promotion of international peace and security, and the rapid implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals without leaving anyone behind, thereby promoting the well-being of humanity.
Other aspects discussed included Angola’s priorities in the presidency of the Organization of African, Pacific and Caribbean States (OACP).
Francis praised the role of the African nation in preventing, managing and resolving conflicts on the continent, particularly in the Great Lakes region, and also encouraged the Angolan Presidency of SADC to achieve the goals of this important forum.
