FOREPLAY

The Carabins, regular season champions, have defeated the Rouge et Or twice in the 2023 calendar, including a 28-0 victory at CEPSUM on October 14, and will be looking for a second win in the three-game series between the two big rivals to the one of 2021.

They also want to avenge Laval University’s 25-24 win in the 2022 edition of the event.

“Laval are the reigning Vanier Cup champions and you can’t be considered favorites until you’re on top of the mountain,” explained Carabins head coach Marco Iadeluca. The two parts of the regular season no longer exist. This favorite title is a deal for journalists and viewers.”

“It’s always special to play against the Carabins in the Dunsmore Cup,” said Rouge et Or coach Glen Constantin. Like the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry, we can’t get enough of it. It is the most beautiful showcase of Quebec football.”

This is only the fourth time the Dunsmore Cup has been held at CEPSUM. The locals lost in 2004 and 2016 and won in 2021.

The Rouge et Or will have their work cut out for them if they want to retain Blues quarterback Jonathan Sénécal, who won the Jeff Russell Trophy for the RSEQ’s outstanding player.

However, the latter did not come naturally before today’s game.

“Every Dunsmore Cup has been fiercely competitive and I expect the same this year,” he said last Thursday.
