U.S. European Command did not provide any information about the fate of its crew, saying: “The cause of the training incident is currently under investigation.”
A US military aircraft crashed after an unspecified “accident” during training in the eastern Mediterranean, US European Command (EUCOM) said on Saturday, without providing any information about the fate of its crew.
“On the evening of November 10, an American military aircraft conducting training operations in the Eastern Mediterranean suffered an accident and crashed,” he said in a statement, which did not provide details on the fate of the person(s) on board.
An investigation into the cause of the incident
“We can say with certainty that the flight of the aircraft was exclusively for training purposes and that there is no evidence of hostile activity,” adds the text, assuring that “the cause of the incident was training and is currently under investigation.” Details the machine type and destination were not provided.
The United States has deployed an aircraft carrier and other warships in the eastern Mediterranean near the Middle East to prevent the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas from escalating into a regional conflict.
After Hamas’ attack in Israel on October 7, which Israeli officials said killed more than 1,200 people, Washington quickly provided military support to Israel. Since then, the Israeli army has carried out an air, land and sea response in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 11,000 people, according to the Hamas Health Ministry.
