Tragic Awakening: Mother Accidentally Shoots Her Son Because She Thinks He’s an Intruder 51 Miami

MIAMI – An unfortunate incident occurred at a home in Pembroke Pines Saturday morning where a woman shot her own son in the leg, accidentally mistaking him for an intruder.

The events occurred around 1:40 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of NW 134th Avenue and NW 9th Street. According to authorities, the woman had fallen asleep on the couch in the living room while her son was resting in an upstairs room.

The peace of the night was broken when the woman suddenly woke up hearing a noise coming from the kitchen.

Faced with the possibility of an intruder’s presence, the woman, terrified, took a gun out of her bag and dared to investigate the origin of the noise. However, fate played a cruel trick when his son came out of the kitchen in a moment of confusion, surprising both him and his mother.

Amid the chaos, the woman accidentally fired twice, with one bullet hitting the ground and the other hitting her own son in the leg, authorities said.

Pembroke Pines Police confirmed the young man was suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Additionally, they noted that the Department of Children and Families has been notified and the Pembroke Pines Police Department’s Investigations Division is investigating the incident, although there is no evidence of an intentional crime to date.

This tragic episode sheds light on the dangers associated with firearm ownership and underscores the importance of exercising extreme caution in situations where confusion can lead to irreparable consequences.

The family now faces not only the young man’s physical recovery, but also the difficult task of understanding and overcoming the emotional impact of this unfortunate event.
