A Gaza Strip continues to be heavily bombed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). On the 35th day of the conflict, Gaza’s largest medical center, AlShifa Hospital, ran out of fuel and electricity. The incubators in the neonatal intensive care unit stopped working and at least two premature babies died; another 37 are at risk of death.
The report of doctor Mohammed Obeid, who is part of the company Doctors Without Bordersand works as a surgeon at AlShifa Hospital went viral on social media.
“We’re on the fourth floor, there’s a sniper [das Forças de Defesa de Israel] who attacked 4 patients in the hospital […] Some people leaving the hospital want to go south; They were bombed, they bombed whole families. Since Saturday morning there has been no electricity, no water and no food in AlShifa Hospital. Our team is exhausted. “Two patients in the neonatal intensive care unit died because the incubators stopped working due to a lack of electricity,” Obeid began.
“An adult patient who was in the intensive care unit also died because mechanical ventilation stopped working as there was no electricity. We could see the smoke at the edge of the hospital. They reached everything around the hospital.” […] We need to ensure that we can evacuate between 37 and 40 premature babies from the neonatal intensive care unit […] “Nobody listens to us,” he said, before ending with a call for an immediate ceasefire and an “end to the attacks on the hospital,” and asked for protection for “health teams and patients.”

After the release of Obeid’s video, Israeli army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that the IDF would help evacuate babies trapped at Al Shifa Hospital on Sunday. “The Shifa Hospital team has requested that we help the babies from the pediatric ward reach a safer hospital tomorrow. We will provide the necessary assistance,” he said at a press conference.
The Israeli Defense Ministry denied that Israeli soldiers fired on AlShifa Hospital. According to them, there are clashes with Hamas militants in the area and the east side of the compound would be safe and open for patients to leave.
