Around 5 a.m., several emergency calls were received to 911 reporting that shots had been fired at a Jewish school on Deacon Street near Van Horn Avenue.
According to witnesses, a vehicle was seen quickly leaving the scene shortly after the gun was fired toward the building.
There have been no arrests so far and the incident has not caused any injuries, said Véronique Dubuc, spokeswoman for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).
The SPVM said several bullet casings were found on the ground.
SPVM investigators went to the scene to analyze the crime scene.
Increase in hate crimes
This is the second such attack against this school and the third attack against a Jewish educational institution in Montreal in a week. It, along with another Jewish school, was the target of gunfire Thursday morning.
The SPVM has reported around fifty hate incidents against the Jewish community in a context where the war between Israel and Hamas has raised tensions as far away as Montreal since October 7th.
The mayor of Montreal strongly condemned these reprehensible acts and called for calm earlier this week.
