At around 5 a.m., emergency services received several emergency calls to 911 about shots heard in this neighborhood of the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district.
When they arrived on scene, police noticed multiple bullet marks on the facade of the Jewish school on Deacon Road, near the intersection of Van Horne Avenue.
“Cases were found on site,” confirmed officer Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), stating that there were no injuries.
“According to initial reports from witnesses, a vehicle was observed quickly leaving the scene when the shots were heard,” she said.
It was initially impossible to say whether there were people inside at the time of the crime. An SPVM investigation is ongoing and police officers were busy searching the premises.
“A perimeter fence has been erected to protect the scene of the accident and to allow police to carry out their field operations. »
The Jewish organization B’nai Brith said it was deeply disturbed by this “repeated act of hate.”
“It’s absolutely stunning. How can this happen in a civilized country? We certainly hope that the Montreal police can shed light on this matter and ensure the safety of the Jewish community,” said Michael Mostyn, president and CEO of B’nai Brith, in a statement.
