Newlywed life got off to a great start for a Michigan couple who decided to treat themselves to a scratch-off ticket and win $1 million the day after the ceremony.
“I bought the ticket the day after my wedding and gave it to my wife to scratch off. When she revealed the price [1M$]we were in disbelief. […] It’s been an exciting two days for us,” the 57-year-old husband, who wished to remain anonymous, told Michigan Lottery Connect last Wednesday.
Last week, the Livingston County, Michigan couple hit the $1 million jackpot after the 50-year-old decided to win a Diamond & Pearls ticket from the Michigan Lottery the day after he exchanged vows with his new wife buy.
She left him the honor of scratching it and then revealed the winning amount of $1 million, which is the highest possible winning amount.
“We read the instructions over and over to make sure we really won,” the new husband said in the statement, reported by Fox Business.
The man therefore chose to receive the amount, equivalent to $693,000 after taxes, all at once instead of paying the entire amount annually. He mentioned in passing that he wanted to invest the sum.
