Wisón Torres receiving a special Latin Grammy Award: “They treated me like a king”

For the musical director and founder of the quartet, it was a long-awaited evening full of excitement. The Hispanics from Puerto Rico, Wison Torres, through being awarded one of the special prizes of Latin Grammy 2023which will take place on November 16th in Spain – for the first time outside the USA.

At almost 89 years old, Torres was one of the artists who received the award Award from the boarddedicated to people who have made important contributions to Latin music throughout their careers, but not necessarily in the form of performances.

“I feel great. It was truly an unforgettable experience. Seeing myself among so many famous stars, each representing their country, and feeling that our little island is there, that Puerto Rico is there, made me happy and proud. I feel very honored that the Lord has granted me this very special blessing. While he was recognized for his 77-year music career as a director, composer and music arranger, which has left an indelible mark on the Puerto Rican music scene, he emphasized that he was “treated like royalty” during the celebrations.

“First, I thanked God, the family, the members of the Latin Grammy Awards and the executives who present these awards, and I also thanked my wife, my children Yanira and Ronnie, who has become something of a personal ‘manager.’ I also had the joy of having two grandchildren with me. “They treated me like a king, I felt like I never felt before” expressed the artist, who rose to prominence on Puerto Rican radio with the group at the age of 12 The Sultansthat he created and directed.

Full steam ahead for your concert

Torres will remain in Spain to attend the Latin Grammy Gala, which will take place in the Exhibition and Congress Palace of Sevilleand then, upon his return to the island, he will prepare with the renewed quartet The Hispanicsalso consisting of Riky Reyes and Edgar Omar Ríos, together with whom they offer the great concert “Songs of a Lifetime”. “I thank Puerto Rico for allowing me for so many years to share the gift that the Lord gave me with my colleagues in the Los Hispanos group, but especially Tato, Charlie, Carmelo, Carlos Camacho, Norman, Rafy Torres and Wisón Jr., who will conduct the Philharmonic Orchestra in this upcoming concert, and I will have a grandson who plays the saxophone.
