Emergency services were called to a house in the Hounslow district at around 10:30 p.m. (local time and GMT) on Sunday evening.

The bodies of five people were discovered on the ground floor. A sixth person had left the house before help arrived, and a seventh is missing.

While numerous fireworks were set off that evening to mark the Hindu festival of Diwali, police assured that it was still too early to determine the cause of the disaster.

The fire destroyed the ground and first floors of the home before it was brought under control around 1:25 a.m.

London Fire Brigade chief Andy Roe said on Monday that 10 trucks and around 70 firefighters had been sent to the property, a medium-sized terraced house.
