Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo prepare trade agreements

In statements to Angola Public Television regarding the holding of the second economic forum between the two countries in this capital, the minister pointed out that the new trade agreement is already being ratified by the relevant authorities.

Other instruments will be implemented within the framework of this agreement, De Oliveira added, emphasizing the historical ties between both nations, both from a political and social perspective.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is essential to our national liberation movement, but there are also cultural and family ties, so we are not only neighbors but also share the same ancestors, he stressed.

He felt that this relationship was more than enough to consider deepening it. In addition, the two countries have great potential in terms of the natural resources they have at their disposal.

He noted that the trade balance is currently favorable for Angola, but acknowledged that many products are traded and are not included in the statistics.

In any case, both parties agree that more trade is necessary.

More than 200 business people from Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo gathered at the forum, which ends tomorrow, in search of sustainable development opportunities.

The central theme of the event is business associations for shared growth, with representatives of public institutions, the banking sector, investors and private entrepreneurs taking part.

The meeting is expected to enable the establishment of a comprehensive action plan on economic and trade issues and publicize the measures and reforms implemented in the two countries.

With a common border of 2,511 kilometers and a market of more than 140 million consumers, the meeting is important for both sides, where aspects such as the situation of passenger and freight transport will also be discussed.

Another issue that will also be up for debate will be the Lobito Corridor, through which Angola provides the Democratic Republic of Congo with access to the Atlantic Ocean.
