AN ENEMY NEAR NAVALNY IN PRISON
Russian justice on Monday arrested Ksenia Fadeeva, an opponent of Vladimir Putin who is close to Alexei Navalny and has long fought against the Russian president. This woman is one of the rare figures associated with the historical opponent who managed to be elected. But she now faces 12 years in prison for “extremism,” a charge often leveled against opposition activists in Russia.
“Ksenia is a political prisoner, a deputy of the City Duma (of Tomsk) who received her mandate after an honest fight,” Andreï Fateev, another Navalny ally who was elected in 2020 along with Ksenia Fadeeva, wrote on Telegram.

Two dead in Kherson after a Russian attack this Monday, according to Kiev

The Kremlin’s silence on Ukraine’s positions
The Kremlin on Monday refused to comment on reports that Ukraine was consolidating its positions on the Russian-occupied left bank of the Dnieper in the hope of breaking through Russian lines. Since late October, the Ukrainian army has managed to entrench troops on the occupied bank of the Dnieper, particularly in the village of Krynky in the southern Kherson region, according to Russian and Ukrainian bloggers and experts who analyzed open source information.
Asked about the issue, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment, but said the Russian army should comment on the situation. “In this particular case, we assume that our army specialists can and must comment on this,” he said. UKRAINIAN DELEGATION VISITING THE UNITED STATES
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak announced on Sunday that he had arrived in the United States with a delegation led by Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko to discuss cooperation and support for his country. “I will be holding meetings in the White House, in Congress, with think tanks and representatives of civil society organizations,” he said on Telegram.
The delegation will discuss “the president’s proposals for peace, strengthening Ukraine’s defense, general deepening cooperation and many other important issues,” he added. Ukrainian officials, including Mr. Zelensky, are meeting regularly with Western leaders to maintain their mobilization alongside Kiev as the war continues for 21 months and Ukraine struggles to gain ground in its counteroffensive against Russia.

Kiev is preparing for attacks on its infrastructure
Ukraine must “prepare” for Russian attacks on infrastructure this winter, its President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Sunday, citing a possible increase in attacks. “We must prepare for the possibility that the enemy will increase the number of drone or missile attacks on our infrastructure,” the head of state said in his daily address.
“All our attention must be focused on defense (…) on everything Ukraine can do to help our people get through the winter,” he added. Last year, the Russian army’s systematic bombing of Ukraine’s energy grid left thousands of people without heat or electricity for long periods in often freezing temperatures.

BERLIN DOUBLES ITS MILITARY AID TO UKRAINE
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced on Sunday evening that his country would double the military aid originally planned by his country for Ukraine in 2024 to the amount of eight billion euros. “This is a strong signal to Ukraine that we will not let up,” he said on public television ARD, when asked about information about the doubling of the budget framework.
“It is an important signal at exactly the moment when Ukraine must continue its fight while some of the attention is focused on Israel and Gaza,” he added. The increase is also a reaction “to the experience we had this year, which showed that the planned amounts were quickly exhausted.”
