Joe Biden pays tribute to Mark Stone

The Vegas Golden Knights took advantage of their visit to Washington to visit the White House on Monday.

It was the return of that tradition for America’s Stanley Cup championship teams. Last year, the Colorado Avalanche were unable to celebrate their triumph with the American president due to a scheduling conflict. The Tampa Bay Lightning visited the White House in 2022 to celebrate their victories in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.

At the podium, Joe Biden had very good words for the Golden Knights organization. He highlighted the determination of the owners and the work of the coaching staff. However, the 80-year-old directed his greatest compliment to captain Mark Stone.

“Mark is my guy,” Biden said. I never played ice hockey, but I played soccer. He’s a guy like the ones I played with. He had two back surgeries within a year. He missed half the season. He returned for the first game of the playoffs and scored a hat trick in the game in which his team won the Stanley Cup.

The Golden Knights forward thanked the most powerful man in the United States and said he planned to return to the White House several times to meet him.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be here,” Stone said. Several people have had the opportunity to visit us a few times and we fully intend to be back!”

The Golden Knights are doing very well so far in the 2023/24 season. With a record of 12-2-1, they sit atop the National League standings. The Nevada club will look to defeat the Capitals on Tuesday before facing the Canadian in Montreal on Thursday.
