[PHOTOS] A Popular Red Carpet For The Montreal Premiere Of The Film "Ru"

Quebec’s entire artistic elite gathered for the film’s Montreal premiere RuMonday evening, at Place des Arts.

One of the most anticipated Quebec films of the fall, Ru is the film adaptation of author Kim Thúy’s best-selling 2009 novel.

Kim Thúy walked the red carpet with members of the film crew, including director Charles-Olivier Michaud and actors Chloé Djandji, Chantal Thuy, Jean Bui, Olivier Dinh, Xavier Nguyen, Karine Vanasse and Patrice Robitaille.

Several other personalities were present at the premiere, including Mélanie Maynard, Rosalie Bonenfant, Pierre Bruneau, Marilyn Castonguay, India Desjardins, Émilie Bierre, Guillaume Cyr, Marc Messier, Isabel Richer, Gilbert Sicotte and Caroline Néron.

Directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud (Anna) from a script by Jacques Davidts (Les mecs), the film tells the journey of Tinh, a young Vietnamese woman (Chloé Djandji) who arrives in Quebec with her family at the end of 1970, after he had fled his country to avoid persecution. Together with her parents and her two little brothers, the little girl will try to adapt to her new life. She is supported by a caring couple from Quebec (Patrice Robitaille and Karine Vanasse), who agree to sponsor the newcomer’s family.

Published by Libre Expression in October 2009, the novel Ru, an autobiographically inspired story, has been translated into around thirty languages and sold more than 540,000 copies worldwide.

Ru will be playing across Quebec on November 24th. The film has already been positively received at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere last September.
