Robbie Williams has spoken out about a new Netflix documentary that chronicles his battle with addiction and mental illness.
The 49-year-old pop star said the four-part self-titled series, which looks at his 25-year career, was “absolutely traumatic” for the hitmaker.
“To be honest, it was deeply uncomfortable,” he said on Tuesday during an appearance on Channel 10’s The Project ahead of his Australian tour.
“I think people don’t even like looking at selfies of themselves and hearing their own voice,” he continued.
“And when you multiply that by watching yourself fall into mental illness, agoraphobia, depression, anxiety, and watching a nervous breakdown, that’s not normal.”

Still, Williams said he is grateful for the outpouring of love the Netflix show has sparked among fans and followers.
“Until it happened, I didn’t know how much I needed to be seen and heard,” he said.
“And I feel like I’ve been seen and heard, and there’s this bag of rocks with all these things that I’ve been carrying around for years, and it feels like there’s this revelation of whatever that is, has taken place.”
“So I’m on a high right now, I feel like the world is hugging me.”

In the show, Robbie, 49, tells the story of his 25-year showbiz career from leaving Take That in 1995 to his struggles with addiction and mental health.
Among the show’s raw revelations was William’s telephone marriage proposal to All Saints star Nicole Appleton, 48.
He also talks about his dependence on steroids to get through his tour performances.
Elsewhere in the show, the superstar talks about his romance with Spice Girl Geri Horner, 50, who he dated while studying AA.
In the documentary, he also talks in detail about how his battle with alcohol and drug addiction came to a head in 2007 after an intervention from his management.

Meanwhile, the British pop star is currently down under to play a series of shows. The tour begins on November 16 at Allianz Stadium in Sydney before heading to Mount Cotton in Queensland, followed by Melbourne, Geelong and Swan Valley in WA.
His last official Australian tour was in 2018 as part of his heavy entertainment show World Tour, although he performed in Melbourne earlier this year for his biopic Better Man.
It follows the release of his album XXV earlier this year, which features remastered versions of his biggest hits from the last 25 years as a solo artist.
The pop star’s highly anticipated Netflix documentary was released on Wednesday and is currently the streaming giant’s most popular show.
