After days of siege and fierce fighting around Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the Israeli army entered the facility and announced that it had found Hamas weapons and materials. A “targeted” operation within “a specific area” of the complex, the military said, which “called on all terrorists present in the hospital to surrender.”
The incursion into the largest clinic in the Gaza Strip, under which the Jewish state believes the Hamas central command is hiding, came on the day the army ordered the settlement of three villages in the southern part of the Gaza Strip – where until now they have displaced people found refuge from the north – only to leave their homeland for safety reasons. A warning that seems to herald possible military action in this area too. While the parliament building in Gaza City, where Israeli soldiers were being photographed after their capture on Monday, was blown up.
Shifa Hospital had become a battlefield for days. The army operation, which was apparently carried out by around a hundred soldiers, continued into the evening. According to military spokespersons, no traces of the hostages have been found so far, as was the case in the Rantisi hospital, where Israel said it had found “evidence” of the passage of the people kidnapped by Hamas.

The Islamic faction described the announcement about the weapons discovery in the hospital as “a blatant lie” from the Jewish state “that should no longer deceive anyone.” The PLO described “the attack by Israeli occupation forces on the Shifa compound” as a “continuation of the war of genocide” and “a new war crime.” Much of the Arab world strongly condemned the Israeli attack. Qatar – a valuable intermediary for the hostages – called for “an international investigation into the attacks” on hospitals, while Jordan spoke of “violations of the laws of war.” The US also intervened with National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, saying it had not given its approval to the Shifa operation.

Before entering the hospital, the Israeli army rebuilt itself and clashed with Hamas militants, killing four of them. The military claimed that “Hamas combat vehicles, intelligence and military equipment” were found in the MRT department. “After October 7, this place provided a hiding place for around 200 terrorists who took part in the massacres and fled here,” said military spokesman Daniel Hagari, adding that the soldiers “found uniforms that the militiamen got rid of.” and then mixed in with the civilians. “The Shifa, Rantisi and others hospitals – Hagari claimed – were all used by Hamas.”
The operation, again according to Israeli Reconstruction, was not just military in nature: the soldiers delivered – as videos and photos published by the army show – “medical supplies, incubators and food for the children.” In a statement reported by The Washington Post, the hospital’s emergency room director, Omar Zaqout, accused Israeli forces of removing the shoes, handcuffing and blindfolding many displaced people present at the hospital and taking them to an unknown destination. The army denied this, saying there was “no friction” between soldiers, doctors and patients at the hospital. While a journalist who was in the Shifa told the BBC that the troops, accompanied by interpreters, went from room to room, floor to floor, questioning everyone, both staff and patients.
On the front of the feared expansion of the conflict, Hamas appears to be having difficulties with its main ally Iran.
At the last meeting in Tehran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would have warned the head of the Palestinian faction Ismail Haniyeh with the following words: “You did not warn us about your attack on October 7 against Israel and us,” the Supreme Leader would have said, according to Portal, quoting three senior leaders Regime officials: “We will not go to war in your name.”
Given the terrible humanitarian situation in which Gaza finds itself, a total of 11,500 people have died, including 4,710 minors and 3,160 women, according to Hamas authorities. While the number of injured in the Gaza Strip, which could face a total failure tomorrow due to fuel shortages, is almost 30,000.
