The show “Le matou – The Musical Comedy” is something very special for 6-year-old Théodore Lemay-Thivierge and his parents Émily Bégin and Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge. Next year on stage, Théodore will play the role of Monsieur Émile, which his father defended in 1985 in Jean Beaudin’s Son, and Émily will play Loretta, the mother of Monsieur Émile. Details of the project were announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
It is Joël Legendre who will conduct the 13 artists on stage, including Émily Bégin (Théodore Lemay-Thivierge’s mother), Alexandre Bacon, Audrey-Louise Beauséjour, Normand Carrière, Nicolas Drolet, Alain Dumas, Martin Larocque, Matthieu Lévesque, Luis Oliva, Lisa Palmieri, Amélie B. Simard and Renée Wilkin.

“Le Matou” comes from the novel of the same name by Yves Beauchemin, which sold several million copies in 16 languages. Present at Wednesday’s press conference, Mr. Beauchemin, whose second novel it was at the time, said it was like “plasticine” in that Le Matou was a project that changed over time. It is Jessy Brouillard who signs the adaptation, libretto, music and lyrics. He promises that “The Cat – The Musical” will be a Broadway-like work.
