The Danish royal family has broken its silence on Crown Prince Frederik’s alleged affair, as angry fans speak out in support of his Australian-born wife Princess Mary.
A week after Spanish magazine Lecturas published explosive photos of Frederik on a night out in Madrid with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova, the royal family told Danish publication BT that they “do not comment on rumors or insinuations.”
Both Frederik, King Charles’ fourth cousin, and his wife Mary have not yet commented personally on the alleged affair.
It’s just the latest scandal to rock the royal family. Royalists took to the palace’s official Instagram account to express their anger.
“Respect and admiration for Princess Mary and a big ‘shame, shame, shame on you,’ Crown Prince Frederik…for your alleged affair/friendship with a certain Mexican celebrity,” one woman commented.
Spanish magazine Lecturas claims Crown Prince Frederik and Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova watched a flamenco performance at a Spanish restaurant, El Corral de la Moreria, which ended at midnight (pictured outside the venue).
“Unfortunately, this undermines the integrity of the Danish royal family.”
Another commentator praised Princess Mary for carrying out her duties with “dignity, enthusiasm and discretion” amid the controversy.
“It gave the royal family a more prominent presence in the world, inspiring admiration and respect around the world,” they wrote.
“I hope Prince Frederik does not destroy this and reflects with wisdom and insight on his role as husband, father and heir to the throne.”
Other fans noted that Prince Frederik and Princess Mary appeared to behave differently in public – even though they appeared united at official events.

SCHEDULE OF FREDERIK’S NIGHT, ACCORDING TO MAGAZINE
The magazine claims that the following events occurred.
October 25th, afternoon: Frederik and Genoveva walk through Retiro Park
7 p.m.: Frederik and Genoveva go to their apartment separately
9 p.m.: They leave the building separately, have changed and get into the same white car
9:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m.: Couple trip to El Corral de la Moreria restaurant for dinner and watching flamenco
1 a.m.: The couple leaves the restaurant and gets into a car
8.30 a.m.: Frederik leaves Genoveva’s apartment
“They don’t hold hands anymore,” one woman posted.
“No, this marriage broke up a long time ago. And now they can show it,” another commented.
“You look very tired,” a third added.
Lecturas reported that during their evening, Prince Frederik and Ms. Casanova visited a Pablo Picasso exhibition, strolled through Retiro Park and later went out to dinner.
At around 7 p.m., Lecturas claimed that both Frederik and Genoveva went to their residence separately and both reappeared two hours later at around 9 p.m., having both changed into evening wear.
In the photos, Genoveva has ditched her chic belted camel coat in favor of a white shirt, black wide-leg pants and a black jacket that she wears over her shoulders.
Meanwhile, Frederik seemed to have changed from a dark blue jacket and brown pants into a white shirt and dark pants with a stylish dark jacket. Again, it is reported that they left the building separately but got into the same white car.
The magazine claimed the couple watched a flamenco performance at Spanish restaurant El Corral de la Moreria, which ended at midnight.
It was also claimed that they remained at their table, which had been flanked by two of the Danish prince’s bodyguards, while other guests left, waiters finished their shifts and the lights were turned off.
Lecturas claimed the couple didn’t leave the restaurant until 1 a.m., then went out onto the street and got into a car. In a “gesture of politeness,” reports Lecturas, Crown Prince Frederik opened the car door for his dining companion.
The magazine claims that the next day the heir to the Danish throne was taken by car to the airport, from where he flew to Denmark.
Shortly after the photos were published, Ms Casanova called the “malicious” rumors of an affair false and misleading.
In a legal letter posted on Instagram, she threatened legal action against the magazine.
Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary refused to comment on the images or rumors

Chron Australia spoke to Amber Petty, Princess Mary’s best friend and bridesmaid, who refused to comment or “come anywhere close” to the scandal.
Chron Australia also reached out to the royal palace but did not receive a response before publication.
A communications expert told BT the palace did not appear to be bothered by the rumors and was likely to view them as a “breeze” rather than a storm.
The alleged affair came after the Danish royal family was rocked by the queen’s decision to strip several family members of their titles.
In September last year, the monarch announced her decision to strip four of her grandchildren of the prince and princess titles.
It also follows the dismissal of 16-year-old Prince Christian from the elite Herlufsholm boarding school in June after allegations of sexual and physical abuse emerged in a documentary.
His sister Isabella, 15, was also supposed to attend, but her parents pulled her out too.
The allegations did not affect the young royals.
