What happened: the video of the tragedy

Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said the 74-year-old woman who lost her life was from Colorado, USA, and was on holiday there with her family. The rest of the passengers and crew were recovered. Among them were two injured, police and ABC 7 said.

Becky and Matt Savage, a couple from Chicago, were on the boat with their two children when they said they were hit by two particularly impressive waves: “The first one, very big, hit us and I saw it coming. “ a second one, so we moved to avoid being overwhelmed.”

Becky says passengers started shouting for life jackets and chaos ensued: “The jackets were on the upper deck, in a basket, and they all ran there to get them.”

Since the boat now tilted about 75 degrees, the family slipped into the water. The Blue Lagoon Island was about 90 meters away but they were in open water, it was rough and swimming wasn’t easy.

Then the rescue ships arrived and all the parents started pushing their children into the hands of the rescuers. The investigation into the reason for the boat’s sinking and the cause of death of the American tourist is still ongoing.
