The National Hockey League is looking new possibilities for expansionbut if Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis had his way, no changes would be made to the current format.
“There is nothing that needs to be changed,” he said openly when asked on Thursday. There’s a lot more strategy than when we started, it’s very well organized, but I don’t think anything needs to change. It’s up to us as coaches to find ways to take advantage of the situation.”
Those in charge of the Bettman circuit who want to make changes want to do so in order to see fewer games played in shootouts and to be entitled to a better three-on-three spectacle.
St. Louis would also like to see more games decided in overtime instead of penalties, but also not longer overtimes.
“Yes [j’aimerais avoir plus de temps en prolongation], but at the same time we have 82 games, he said. I would rather see a game end in overtime, but not at the expense of overtime. If you extend it over a game that’s fine, but you don’t know how many extensions you’re going to do and that puts a lot of mileage on the body [des joueurs]. I think it’s fine just the way it is.”
