The challenge of the sanctuary was to collect 20,000 units of panettone and mineral water to 9 p.m. this Thursday. The aim is to help people in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion.

The initiative is a partnership of the Catholic Church on the occasion of World Day of the Poor, launched by Pope Francis and taking place on November 19th.

The Ferris wheel also pays tribute

The North American singer’s visit to Rio de Janeiro is already a success before the shows. In addition to Christ the Redeemer, another tourist attraction in the city was illuminated in honor of Taylor Swift.

Rio’s Ferris wheel in the harbor area also joined Swift’s dance. The company that manages Yup Star Rio prepared a homage through a scenographic intervention with LEDs on the 88 meter high structure of the Ferris wheel.

The projection, which shows part of the lyrics of one of the artist’s songs, will take place November 1719 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The tribute to Taylor Swift at Christ the Redeemer was a request from the singer’s fans, known as Swifties. The matter sparked such a response on social media that Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes then suggested forwarding the request to Father Omar.

Father Omar confirmed this alternative on social media and said he had received the request. The singer’s fans are already mobilizing in the city.

“It will be a memory that we will look at in 10 years and remember the whole experience and it will be incredible,” said receptionist Joana Oliveira.

Fans stayed there singing and dancing for several hours and went into an uproar when the singer left the hotel around 5:22 p.m.

Taylor Swift fans are counting down to her first show in Rio

It took 15yearold teenager Rafaella Braz 20 hours by bus to get to the capital, Rio de Janeiro, to see the show. She came from Porto Seguro in Bahia and was enjoying the beach when she found out that the artist was in the southern zone. She ran to the hotel door, hoping to make contact with Taylor.

Friends Amanda Castellini and Ana Beatriz, 22 and 23 years old, lost their plane tickets that they had bought 1,2,3 miles away and hurriedly bought bus tickets. The journey from Curitiba to Rio took 12 hours.

Taylor performs at Engenhão on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays tickets are already sold out. According to the state government, more than 1,000 police officers will be on the streets near the stadium from 1 p.m. during singer Taylor Swift’s threeday performance.

Special traffic regulations

The special program will feature more than 700 agents over the three presentation days (17th, 18th and 19th) at the Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio North Zone.

City Hall’s main recommendation to the public is to use public transport (train and subway) as streets will be closed to vehicular traffic.

In addition, parking vehicles is prohibited around the stadium. The parking ban begins this Thursday at 11 p.m.
