In the early hours of this Friday (17th) the panettone and water bottles purchased with the donations began to be distributed to the homeless.

The fundraiser began late Thursday morning and was halted due to high traffic.

In addition to donations from Swifties, the collection also included other forms of help. A company donated several bottles of water for distribution. Since it is a social action, the Shrine received a discount when purchasing a large amount of panettone.

There will also be a special program for World Day of the Poor at the Cathedral of São Sebastião in central Rio, including a breakfast for people in vulnerable situations at 7 a.m. on Sunday and lunch at 12 p.m.

At 10 a.m. there will be a mass with Cardinal Dom Orani Tempesta.

The competition began after the Swifties, as the singer’s fans are called, expressed on social networks Father Omar, rector of the Sanctuary of Christ the Savior, their desire to see the message in one of the most important monuments in the world.

Therefore, the priest asked Taylor Swift’s fans to translate their wish into social action by collecting panettone and mineral water to help people in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion.

The initiative is a partnership of the Catholic Church on the occasion of World Day of the Poor, launched by Pope Francis and taking place on November 19th.

“We will welcome the thousands of fans and Taylor herself. The campaign is based on World Day of the Poor. Once we have achieved this goal, we will place the projection here with Christ the Redeemer,” explained Father Omar.

The Ferris wheel also pays tribute

The North American singer’s visit to Rio de Janeiro is already a success before the shows. In addition to Christ the Redeemer, another tourist attraction in the city was illuminated in honor of Taylor Swift.

The company that manages Yup Star Rio prepared a homage through a scenographic intervention with LEDs on the 88 meter high structure of the Ferris wheel.

The projection, which shows part of the lyrics of one of the artist’s songs, will take place November 1719 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Taylor Swift fans are counting down to her first show in Rio

The special program will feature more than 700 agents over the three presentation days (17th, 18th and 19th) at the Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio North Zone.

City Hall’s main recommendation to the public is to use public transport (train and subway) as streets will be closed to vehicular traffic.

In addition, parking vehicles is prohibited around the stadium. The parking ban begins this Thursday at 11 p.m.

According to the state government, more than 1,000 police officers will be on the streets near Engenhão from 1 p.m. during singer Taylor Swift’s threeday performance.
