ON VIDEO | Protesters force their way into the office of a deputy from Laval –

Earlier this week, protesters attempted to break into an office of the PLQ deputy for the Mille-Îles riding in Laval. This ploy orchestrated by organizations worries the MP Virginie Dufour, who is now thinking about whether to report it to the police, as she confides to TVA Nouvelles.

The police operation was filmed. One person allegedly posed as a fake delivery man, so that around fifteen demonstrators then entered the building, Ms. Dufour noted.

In the context of Bill 31 on housing, the protesters demand that Rep. Dufour withdraw the proposed amendment that allows owners to require a deposit for people with companion animals at the time of signing the rental agreement.

“This is unacceptable!”

“My employees were in a mousetrap. They couldn’t move, we can’t accept that. This is not a tolerable working atmosphere! You have the right to speak out and demonstrate, but this in no way justifies such escalation of violence. This is unacceptable, it has no place in our society,” comments PLQ MP for Mille-Îles, Valérie Dufour.

“Disproportionate” police intervention?

An organization present at the incident assures that it was not a matter of intimidation, but that the police intervention was disproportionate.

“From our perspective, this is not an attempt at intimidation. If we have to do this to enter an office, it is because we are neither heard nor received,” explains RCLALQ spokesman Cédric Dussault.

He explains that numerous police officers appeared on site. “One person in our group was attacked. There was a completely disproportionate use of force.”

The Laval police confirm that a person was handcuffed, but that the police intervention was carried out “in accordance with the rules of the art”. According to Ms. Dufour, one of her employees suffered a minor injury.
