One person died this Friday (17) in a shooting at the entrance to the psychiatric hospital in Concord, New Hampshire, authorities reported. The suspect was killed.

According to the New Hampshire Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, police responded to a call shortly after 4 p.m. (local time; 2 p.m. Brasília).

About 30 minutes later, authorities announced that the suspect was dead and the situation was “contained,” State Police Chief Mark Hall said at a news conference at the health facility that evening.

According to the police officer, a police officer on duty outside the hospital intervened after the suspect opened fire at the entrance to the health center, killing one person.

The victim, whose identity was not revealed, died after being shifted to another hospital in the city. The suspected shooter was killed by police, Hall added, without giving further details.

The hospital has its own uniformed security guards and requires visitors to pass through metal detectors. Nevertheless, there was a security breach that allowed the armed suspect entry.

Friday’s shooting came about three weeks after a gunman in Lewiston in the US state of MaineThe country’s deadliest mass shooting this year left 18 people dead and 13 injured. The attack occurred in two different locations: a bowling alley and a restaurant bar. Possible motives for the crime were not disclosed.
