GOOD MORNING
Hello and welcome to this live broadcast dedicated to the war in Ukraine. Here you will find the latest news and powerful images about this conflict.
After months of a disappointing counteroffensive, Ukraine claimed on Friday it had captured Russian-held positions on the banks of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, but admitted it continued to face “violent fighting.” The Ukrainian armed forces “carried out a number of successful actions,” the naval command said on Facebook, reporting “heavy losses” inflicted on the enemy.
“Push the enemy back as far as possible”
“The Ukrainian units managed to drive the Russians from their positions on the left bank of the river,” the General Staff confirmed shortly afterwards, adding that “heavy fighting” as well as “sabotage, raid and reconnaissance operations” were underway. The aim: “to push the enemy back as far as possible” in order to prevent them from shelling the opposite cities under Ukrainian control.
This is Ukraine’s first success in its counteroffensive since recapturing the village of Robotyné in the Zaporizhzhia region last August.
