From our special correspondent in Quebec,

Founded in 1852, Laval University was the first French-speaking university in North America. It remains one of the largest in the country to date, as in 2022 it offered around 550 degree programs from the first to the third cycle for 47,000 students. including thousands of foreigners. Necessary collaboration in a globalized economy as Canada seeks skilled talent to offset its aging population and labor shortage challenges. Student mobility and international partnerships have become mandatory steps for large higher education institutions.

The management of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences (management school recognized for its study and research programs) has opened its doors to RFI. Frank Pons, full professor, dean of the FSA ULaval and director of the International Observatory in Sports Management, leads the visit, accompanied by Abakar Jean, responsible for student support and information, especially for Africa, and Guillaume Tchoffo Talla, Cameroonian student in the master’s program in business administration – Finance (MBA). It’s about the opening of the university to the rest of the world, the (sometimes difficult) adaptation process of foreign students, the crucial question of increasing tuition fees, the procurement of scholarships or infrastructure, especially sports, essential elements of the feeling of belonging to the institution.
