A house in the Cap-Rouge district of Quebec burst into flames on Friday evening, requiring the deployment of around fifty firefighters.
On Friday evening, around 11:20 p.m., several calls were received reporting a fire in a garage belonging to a residential building in Rang Saint-Denis, on the corner of Rang Saint-Ange, very close to the Cap Rouge River.
Given the magnitude of the situation, the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) raised three consecutive alarms, resulting in the deployment of around fifty firefighters to bring the fire under control.
During defensive maneuvers to contain the flames, the firefighters quickly noticed the collapse of the garage roof and part of the residential building roof.
According to SPCIQ spokesman Bill Noonan, the fire apparently started in the garage and spread at high speed to the attic of the home.
“All residents were able to evacuate the building and no one was injured,” he added.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
The latest news was that a large propane tank behind the building, within reach of the flames, was the SPCIQ’s primary concern. With the latter, there was a risk of explosion if it came into contact with fire.
