As usual, GoPro is waiting until fall to introduce its new action camera. This Hero12 Black inherits the configuration of its predecessor released a year earlier and takes the opportunity to perfect its recipe and add some features.

First steps
This annual renewal of GoPro’s flagship camera leaves you wanting more. Certainly the GoPro Hero12 Black is an excellent camera and still remains ahead of the competition, but the advances compared to the previous version hardly justify the appearance of this new model. No matter, because the action camera is sold cheaper than its predecessor, remains devilishly effective in all situations and at the same time offers the best on the market.
Strong points
- 5.3K at 60 fps, 4K Ultra HD at 120 fps, 2.7K at 240 fps.
- Stabilization and maintenance of the horizon always effective.
- Fastening and thread integrated in the frame.
- Autonomy and heating in progress.
- Automatic upload and editing with Quik subscription.
- 10-bit LOG mode and LUTs.
- Full compatibility with the previous range of accessories.
Weak points
- Hardly any change compared to the Hero 11.
- Tedious management of menus and modes.
- Waterproof up to 10 m without housing (generally 18 m in competition).

First steps
GoPro has not yet said its last word to the veteran newcomers who are looking for the American manufacturer like DJI or Insta360 on its territory. The Hero9 Black fixes certain shortcomings of version 8 and takes up some good ideas from the competition. It certainly doesn’t deliver the best image quality on the market, but it’s so complete that it performs well without any problems. With its increasingly effective stabilization and its new horizon hold function, the Hero in version 9 always stays above the basket!
