100yearold woman adopts older dog from animal shelter that no one wanted to adopt

One older mixed breed named Gnocchi stayed in an animal shelter in Muttville in San Francisco, USA for a long time. No one had shown any interest in adopting him and he was losing hope.

All he really wanted was a place to relax in his “golden years.” Until Gnocchi’s luck changed.

Alice Ensor, adoption counselor at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, received the first adoption application from a woman named Johanna.

She thought it was nothing unusual until you see the woman’s age.

Johanna made an incredible application to adopt a dog 100 years deity.

“When I first received Johanna’s adoption questionnaire, I was a little surprised,” Alice told The Dodo.

While some people might be worried about someone Johanna’s age adopting a new dog, that wasn’t the case with Alice.

“The 100th birthday is definitely a milestone in itself. It’s not often that a centenarian wants to bring home a new mutt.”

“I knew Johanna had to be a very special dog lover to start looking for a new furry friend before she turned 101,” she told the website.

Johanna’s detailed application stated that she had a strong support system, including a carer and her daughter Debbie, who helped her care for her new friend.

She was a great candidate to adopt a senior Muttville resident the question was: which dog would it be?

“Muttville Adoptions Manager Kristin Hoff was the one who realized Gnocchi could be a good fit, and everything was really easy from there,” Alice said.

The next step was to introduce Gnocchi to Johanna.

“We arranged a virtual call where Johanna was able to see Gnocchi in a home setting, and it was love at first sight“, he said.

All the little dog needed was a comfortable, loving lap. And that’s what he achieved.

“We processed the adoption the next day and Debbie helped pick up Gnocchi and take him to his new mother. Debbie let us know.” Gnocchi entered the house and jumped straight into Johanna’s lap.

It’s been a year since Gnocchi was adopted.

Today the dog’s name is Gucci and the incredible friendship between the two has made Johanna, who will soon be 102 years old, a person full of energy.

The older woman said to Muttville:

“He gives me so much joy! I love it when he sits on my lap and keeps me company.” With Gucci’s presence in my life, I have found someone I can love and care forand that makes a big difference at my age.

Debbie, Johanna’s daughter, revealed that the two are inseparable and that Gucci was without a doubt the best choice:

“He’s spoiled! He’s a real homebody who was a perfect match for my mother!”
