A five-year-old fatally stabbed his twin with a kitchen knife during an argument in California on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the two brothers were at odds.
“Tragically, during the incident, one of the two 5-year-old children took a small kitchen knife and stabbed his twin brother,” the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The injured child was taken to the hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Given the circumstances of the incident, no charges have been filed against anyone involved in this situation.
“California law states that age, criminal intent and awareness are required to charge a child,” the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said in its news release.
“Based on the current investigation, there is no evidence of negligence or criminal activity by any person,” it said.
Out of respect for the family, authorities said no further information about this case will be released.
