Five people are arrested for threats against Sergio Massa, Argentine presidential candidate noticias.r7.com

According to official sources, this Saturday (18), the eve of the second round of the presidential elections in Argentina, five people were arrested for threats against the government candidate, the Peronist Sergio Massa, and his family on various social networks.

The fifth and final arrest of a woman on the run in Salta province was confirmed by Interior Minister Aníbal Fernández in a social media reply message to Massa himself.

Another four people were arrested this Friday (17) in the city of Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Chaco and Córdoba, the state agency Télam reported.

“Thank you to everyone who wrote to us and was concerned about the threats we received,” Massa posted, along with a photo of his wife Malena Galmarini and their children, ages 17 and 21.

Massa will face the ultraright Javier Milei in the second round this Sunday, in the most controversial and polarized elections in 40 years of democracy.

On Friday evening, Milei received boos from many audience members at the opera performance she attended at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. As a result, theater director Jorge Telerman was “completely rejected”.

The threats against Massa follow previous threats denounced in court by, among others, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Prime Minister Cecilia Moreau.
