Catherine Dorion and her outbursts did not overshadow her supportive colleagues, according to Rep. Christine Labrie, who paid tribute to her and her book in a message Saturday.
“The thought that Catherine is responsible for the lack of interest in our political work never occurred to me,” says the member for Sherbrooke in a long message posted on social networks on Saturday morning.
Like Québec Solidaire co-head Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, Ms. Labrie responded to Catherine Dorion’s book by highlighting her former colleague’s plight.
The member for Sherbrooke, who is also running for the party’s female spokesperson, did not comment on Ms Dorion’s harsh criticism of Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois. On the other hand, despite the criticism expressed in the book, she had already reaffirmed her trust in him at the beginning of the week.
“What I feel most strongly is a mixture of sadness and guilt for not seeing the extent of Catherine’s grief,” she wrote. “Like many of my colleagues, I underestimated his suffering and after reading the story of his time on the Solidarity Committee, I feel guilty. »
Laurent Commission against “Maipoils”
The supporting MP adds that it is not Catherine Dorion’s fault but the media’s if her fashion highlights have pushed more relevant issues into the background in public debate. “It is journalists and columnists who are responsible for the issues they raise or silence,” she emphasizes.
On this subject, she recalls a press conference where she and Manon Massé spoke about the Laurent Commission and a journalist asked her about Catherine Dorion’s “Maipoils” campaign. Maipoils is an annual feminist campaign that aims to normalize hair on women’s bodies.
“It was Manon who answered. Maybe it’s better this way, because I wanted to tell him that he was the one who damaged his own credibility as a journalist with this question. At that moment, he clearly preferred feeding the clicking machine rather than addressing the way we care for vulnerable children in Quebec. »
She concludes by saying that her book is “a great work that reminds us how difficult it will be to change the system and how much we need to work together to achieve it.” »
