Packers vs. Chargers NFL Week 11 Prediction with LeRoy Butler

Who does LeRoy Butler think will win at Lambeau on Sunday: Packers or Chargers? You might be surprised.

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers welcome Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers to Lambeau Field for a Week 11 NFL duel featuring two teams under .500.

Both the Packers and Chargers are looking to rebound after a tough loss last week – the Packers lost on the road to the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-19, while the Chargers lost a shootout to the Detroit Lions 41-38.

I’ll be posting live updates and score highlights in this file, while reporter Tom Silverstein will also have his regular in-game chat here. Do you have a question for him, would you like to leave a comment on his blog or get his opinion on the campaign? Check it out during the game.

The Chargers lost Joey Bosa to injury in that game and now things aren’t looking good for the Packers injury-wise.

Star running back Aaron Jones needed help from the field after he went down following a 2-yard run with 3:09 left in the second quarter.

The Packers score a first down on a 7-yard first pass from Malik Heath and then a 5-yard run by AJ Dillon.

A Christian Watson false start sends the Packers back 5 yards for a 3rd-and-12, but today Jordan Love finds his favorite target, Jayden Reed, for 17 yards over the middle for first down and out to their own 46-yard line. Reed got the Packers touchdown today.

The Chargers are down three and the Packers get the ball back with six minutes to play.

Can Jordan Love and the offense find a way to attack a Chargers defense that no longer has Joey Bosa?

After Jordan Love was sacked on the first play, he found rookie wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks for 29 yards to get the Packers’ offense going from deep in their own territory.

The Packers are in business after a few positive runs. Green Bay got to the Chargers’ 23-yard line, but the Packers went back from there with a false start penalty and a subsequent bobbled snap.

This led to a 52-yard field goal attempt by Anders Carlson. The shot went wide to the right, but as reporter Tom Silverstein notes in his live blog, the shot wasn’t good, but defender Daniel Whelan “did what he could to bring it down.”

Carlson hesitated before kicking it. A promising journey ends in disappointment.

The Chargers are still up 10-7 with 7:16 left in the second quarter. The Chargers will take over at their own 42-yard line.

Well, that lead was short-lived.

Justin Herbert found a wide-open Stone Smartt on 3rd-and-3 from the Chargers’ 49-yard line, and then the wide receiver easily shook off Packers safety Jonathan Owens before running for the touchdown.

The Chargers definitely exposed the Packers’ broken secondary in this game.

The 51-yard TD was the longest play Green Bay’s defense has allowed this season, the Fox broadcast said.

It is Smartt’s first career touchdown. The scoring drive: 6 plays 75 yards over 2:37.

Score: Chargers 10, Packers 7 (12:16 left in the second quarter)

The Packers start the second quarter.

And on the first play of the quarter, the Packers score a touchdown.

Wide receiver Jayden Reed started the play on the far left side and acted like a receiver, but ran up the middle to receive Jordan Love’s handoff and then raced down the right sideline for a 32-yard TD run .

It certainly got the crowd at Lambeau Field going and gave new impetus to the Packers’ young offense that had been struggling to put up points.

Score: Packers 7, Chargers 3 (14:53 remaining in the second quarter)

The Packers got a quick three-and-out, and then the Chargers marched down the field and kicked a short field goal to take a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter.

The big play was a 37-yard gain by Austin Ekeler to the left side to give Green Bay a 12-yard lead on a 3rd-and-1.

The Chargers have to settle for a short field goal after veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen drops a pass near the goal line.

Score: Chargers 3, Packers 0 (1:22 remaining in first quarter)

Both coaches appear to be aggressive in this game. The Chargers tried on fourth-and-4 at the Green Bay 43. Donald Parham Jr. was wide open up the middle but dropped the pass. The Packers will take over with 9:36 left in the first quarter.

The biggest development in the opener was the injury to All-Pro Joey Bosa.

He was taken to the locker room on a cart.

The Packers had a nice, solid performance, with Jordan Love passing to Romeo Doubs for 23 yards on the first two plays.

But short yardage plays always seem to be the obstacle for the Packers.

After a 9-yard play to AJ Dillon to set up 3rd-and-1, the Packers lost a yard on third down and then failed to convert 4th-and-2.

The Chargers take over at the 50-yard line.

The Packers get the ball first and two Dallin Leavitt penalties negate a solid return by Keisean Nixon.

The Packers start the first drive all the way back at their own 8-yard line.

Here’s the story of the quarterbacks in this matchup. Both were first-round picks in the 2020 draft. The difference is that Herbert has been starting since his rookie season, while Love is just starting his first year after sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for the past three seasons.

Justin Herbert: 216 for 322 (67.1%), 2,349 yards, 17 touchdowns, five interceptions, 99.5 rating

Jordan Love: 176 for 300 (58.7%), 2,009 yards, 14 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 80.5 rating

The Chargers’ uniforms are widely considered to be some of the best in the NFL.

Today, the Packers travel back in time with a 1950s-inspired look.

It’s a beautiful November day in Green Bay. It’s 43 degrees with light winds (6 mph) and sunny skies.

You couldn’t ask for much better weather here at this time of year.

The Packers will be shorthanded in their secondary against the Chargers’ potent offense.

All-Pro corner Jaire Alexander (shoulder) and safety Rudy Ford (biceps) are out.

Rookie Carrington Valentine will join fellow cornerback Corey Ballentine in the starting lineup for the third consecutive season. Ballentine spent much of the season on the practice squad.

Linebackers Quay Walker and Rashan Gary, both of whom entered the game with doubts, will play.

Cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly, outside linebacker Brenton Cox Jr., tackle Caleb Jones and receiver Samori Toure round out the Packers inactives.

Learn more about the Packers’ inactives here.

The Packers play the Chargers on Sunday at noon.

It’s the Packers’ fourth straight noon start before they begin a three-game stretch outside that window.

The game will be broadcast on Fox.

You can hear the game on WRNW-FM – 97.3 The Game in Milwaukee, FM-101 WIXX-FM in Green Bay or on the national broadcaster Packers Radio Network near you.

The Packers are 3-6 and in third place in the NFC North. They sit 11th in the NFC and are well outside the playoff rankings.

The Packers have only won one game in nearly two months. That win came two weeks ago against the Los Angeles Rams at Lambeau Field. Can the Packers score their second straight at home?

They are in 12th place in the AFC playoff rankings, but are just one game behind the Houston Texans in the loss list for the final wild card spot. They are one of seven AFC teams with five losses.

Doughtery column: When it comes to Christian Watson, don’t forget the recent history with young Packers receivers

Three of our four reporters are happy to see the Chargers leave Lambeau Field with a win. Here are their end result predictions and why.

Everyone expects Herbert to light up the Packers defense with at least 30 points. Will the Packers’ offense be able to keep up?

The Packers would certainly like to play at full strength against the Chargers’ strong passing attack.

But that seems unlikely.

On Friday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said three of the team’s best defensive players – Jaire Alexander (shoulder), Rashan Gary (hip) and Quay Walker (groin) – were all questionable for Sunday.

Alexander, who missed last week’s loss to the Steelers, practiced for the second straight day on Friday but was not in the pads. Alexander participated in limited team practices Thursday.

Gary, meanwhile, had “a little mishap” with his shoulder during practice on Friday, LaFleur told reporters, putting his status in jeopardy on Sunday.

It looks like second-year linebacker Quay Walker could be back after missing the last two games. He’s been practicing all week.

One player the Packers don’t expect to play is safety Rudy Ford. Ford, who returned last week after missing Week 9 against the Rams with a calf injury, is dealing with a new illness. Ford hasn’t practiced all week because he suffered a bicep injury. He is listed as questionable to play.

As a result, the Packers designated undrafted rookie free agent Benny Sapp III from the practice squad.

Ford’s place will likely be rookie Anthony Johnson Jr., whom the Packers signed to the practice squad on October 17th. His running mate in the secondary would be veteran Jonathan Owens, who has replaced Darnell Savage, who is on injured reserve.

The name to watch for the Chargers is veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen. He left last week’s game against the Lions with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.

After missing training on Wednesday and then only making a limited appearance on the starting line on Thursday, he was fully active on Friday.

While the team gave him questionable status, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that Allen is expected to play.

The 31-year-old has played his entire 11-year career with the Chargers and continues to perform at a high level.

Allen leads the team with 73 receptions and his 895 receiving yards are the fourth most in the NFL. He caught 11 passes for 175 yards and scored two touchdowns last week.

The week before, he surpassed 10,000 receiving yards in the team’s 27-6 win over the Jets, joining Antonio Gates as the only players in Chargers history to reach that milestone.
