The Israeli army announced that it had discovered this Sunday (19) a 55meterlong tunnel used by Hamas terrorists under the Al Shifa hospital complex in the Gaza Strip, where its troops had carried out an operation in recent days.

“The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has uncovered a 55meterlong terrorist tunnel 10 meters underground at the AlShifa complex,” which passes under the hospital and leads to an armored door, the army said in a statement in addition to posting images of discovery on X, formerly Twitter (Watch the video below).

“This type of door is used by terrorists from the Hamas organization to prevent Israeli forces from entering command centers,” the note said.

The tunnel was discovered in an area of ​​the hospital under a hangar containing weapons such as “grenade launchers, explosives and Kalachnikov rifles,” the army added, saying soldiers continued to advance underground.


Previously, the IDF said it controlled an area in the Gaza Strip known to be the residence of senior officials in the Hamas terrorist group. According to the army, the extremists took control of Rimal’s buildings to carry out and direct their activities.

Operations also took place in the Sheikh Ijlin region, identifying and destroying the terrorist organization’s infrastructure and assets.


The military found ammunition dumps and seven rocket launchers at these two locations. The IDF said 35 tunnel entrances and “a large number of weapons” had been located.


Israel’s answer

The war in Gaza enters its 44th day today and is Israel’s response to the October 7 terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. More than 1,200 people were killed in the attacks and around 240 were kidnapped.
