A UN report starkly shows the gap between expectations and reality in global climate policy: We are not heading towards warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius, but rather three degrees Celsius.
Ten days before the start of the climate conference (COP 28) in Dubai, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) presents a report that mercilessly shows the reality: If current policies continue, the global average temperature is expected to increase by by the year 2100 it is three degrees higher than before the start of industrialization, i.e. 1850.
This means that the global average temperature would be exactly twice as high as that negotiated at the Paris climate conference in 2015. At that time, it was agreed that greenhouse gas emissions should be reduced in such a way that the global average temperature it should be 1.5 degrees by the end of the century, or at least well below two degrees.
