Video shows Marines in a massive brawl outside a bar in Austin, Texas, after a woman’s cellphone was stolen

Video posted on social media shows the moment a violent brawl broke out between a group of uniformed Marines and civilians outside a Texas nightclub over the weekend.

The footage appears to show the groups outside the Voodoo Room on historic Sixth Street in Austin’s entertainment district.

The altercation appears to begin when one woman takes the phone out of another’s hand and a Marine tries to intervene.

Then a man in a white long-sleeved shirt tries to throw a punch at another Marine but misses as a group of his comrades rush to his defense.

As some Marines try to separate the men while insulting each other, tensions appear to escalate and an all-out brawl breaks out.

The civilians and Marines exchange blows and several are thrown to the ground as Austin Police Department and Texas Highway Patrol officers begin to break up the fight.

Bystanders cheered the Marines, who appeared to far outnumber the civilians in the fight.

A man can be heard shouting: ‘USA! USA!’ as officers work to break up the fight.

The video shows at least one man being arrested. At the end of the video, the mounted police arrive and sirens can be heard offscreen.

In July, Austin police and the Texas Department of Public Safety resumed their partnership to increase police presence and deter crime on the popular downtown bar strip.

Austin police did not respond to ‘s request for more information about the altercation in time for this report.

Many people reposted the video on social media and Twitter users expressed their thoughts on the altercation.

“That’s why no one should be on 6th Street. There is chaos and no law enforcement protection left unless @TxDPS or military personnel happen to be in the area,” said user Brandi.

On a poster with the name Dr. Waitman W. Beorn stood: “I’m not the biggest fan of the Marines, but…hitting one of them when there’s a huge crowd is a very bad idea.”

One forecast predicts that Austin’s population will grow tenfold from the current 2.3 million to nearly 23 million by then.

According to a recent Bankrate study, Austin is the best city to start a career in, thanks to its booming job market and quality of life.

However, downtown Austin businesses told CBS Austin that increasing crime and homelessness are affecting public safety in the area.
