Spanish police arrested three people on Monday, one in Fuengirola (Malaga) and two in Lanjarón (Granada), for the attempted murder of Alejo Vidal-Quadras, founder of the Spanish far-right party Vox. On November 9, Vidal-Quadras was shot in the face as he walked down a street in Madrid. Those arrested are two men of Spanish nationality and a British woman: According to sources informed of the investigation and quoted by the newspaper El País, the attack was linked to the so-called “Iranian leadership”, i.e. those close to it by Vidal-Quadras, in connection with the Iranian opposition forces. The same sources claim that none of the arrested people were the material perpetrators of the shooting.
On November 9, at around 1:30 p.m., Vidal-Quadras was approached on Calle Núñez de Balboa by two people on a motorcycle with helmets on their faces: one of the two got out of the vehicle and shot him in the face. from Vidal-Quadras and then got back on the motorcycle and fled together with the other person. Alejo Vidal-Quadras is 78 years old and was born in Barcelona. Previously, for many years he was a member of the Popular Party of Catalonia, the Catalan branch of Spain’s main conservative party. He left the company in 2014 to found Vox, of which he was its first president. Between 1999 and 2014 he was also a member of the European Parliament and Vice President of the European Parliament.
