The impressive Netflix series “The Crown” is currently tearing apart its loyal fans who cannot digest the fact that Diana Spencer (Elizabeth Debicki) and her lover Dodi Al-Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) died in a terrible car accident in the summer of 1997 , the fourth episode appears in the form of ghosts – or apparitions? – to comfort and guide their loved ones.

Yes, it is very strange and strange. Especially for “The Crown”, a brilliant production full of historical realism, accurate dates and minute details. But these brief ghost scenes – there are only three – do not tarnish the brilliant reputation of the series, whose first four episodes of the sixth season revisit Lady Di’s last weeks before she perished with Dodi in the tunnel of the Pont de l’ Alma in Paris, pursued by voracious and violent paparazzi.

The image war between Diana Spencer and her ex-husband, Prince Charles (Dominic West, too handsome for the role) takes up much of the intrigue of The Crown 6, available in French and English on Netflix. You can watch it in one go, and since the events only date from 1997, the soundtrack is full of “historical” gems like Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping,” Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android,” and Daft Punk’s “Da Funk,” minus those Ballad “When You Tell” I forget that you love me by Julio Iglesisas.

The second episode, centered on two diametrically opposed press photographers, perfectly illustrates the cultural gulf that separates the lives of Diana and Charles, who have been divorced for a year.

Diana spends her summer in Saint-Tropez on a huge yacht owned by Mohamed Al-Fayed (Salim Daw), known as Mou-Mou, an Egyptian billionaire who owns the Ritz Hotel in Paris and the ultra-chic Harrods store in London Renfrew look like a giant tiger.

At Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Charles wears brown clothes and isn’t living his “best life,” one content creator on Instagram would say.

Liberated, liberated from the monarchical shackles, blonde Diana swims in bling-bling, champagne and bright colors, while earthy Charles can’t even convince his own mother, Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton), to come out on his 50th birthday Loved one Camilla attend Parker-Bowles (Olivia Williams).

Dominic West (center) plays the role of Prince Charles. Rufus Kampa plays Prince William and Fflyn Edwards plays Prince Harry.

Back on the Mediterranean, where she poses for tabloid photographers in a leopard-print swimsuit, Diana has no idea that the unscrupulous Mohamed is hatching a royal plan so that her son Dodi, despite being engaged to American model Kelly Fisher, will seduce and marry her. The patriarch Mohamed has dreamed of this connection for many moons. That and the Queen of England finally granting him British citizenship.

The crown also shows the great affection that Diana has for Princes William and Harry, who form her tribe and who were excluded from the Windsor family.

Did Dodi Al-Fayed, who had only known Diana for a few weeks, have real romantic feelings for the princess of hearts, or did he buy her a huge ring just to please her father? The Crown does not specifically state this.

In the third episode, the writers added a scene in which Dodi asks for Diana’s hand in marriage at the Ritz, a few hours before her tragic end, which was never confirmed.

Dodi (Khalid Abdalla) and Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) in The Crown

The fourth episode shows the shock felt by the British (and the world) at the death of Lady Di, which occurred in the middle of the night. People mourn their princess and flood Buckingham Palace with flowers.

True to her psychotic character, Queen Elizabeth II refused to return to London to speak to her relatives. Citizens’ anger grows and the media once again accuses the Queen of lacking compassion for Diana, who is adored by everyone.

In fact, it is Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce) who insists that the Crown follow protocol and show no empathy or compassion. What a narrow-minded and difficult character.

The Crown has not been able to cope with subtlety for several years. The episodes swell and lose their prestigious sheen to don more dazzling outfits. In short, the Crown, like the monarchy itself, has become “pipoliticized.”

The final six episodes of The Crown will be released on December 14th and will cover the period between 1997 and 2005, saving us from the uninteresting melodrama of Harry and Meghan, the poor plague victims of Kensington.

Gildor Roy

I was missing a name to complete the list of ten campers who slept in the lush jungles of Panama in the second season of Get Me Out of Here! at TVA: that of Gildor Roy, ex-commander Chiasson of District 31 and former tenant of La tour à TVA.

Gildor Roy, who did not respond to my interview requests, saw himself alongside the comedian Rosalie Vaillancourt, the skateboarder Sébastien Toutant, the presenter Dave Morissette, the comedian Alex Perron, the columnist Sophie Durocher, the comedian Philippe Laprise, the slimy snakes and other disgusting insects opposite. Presenter Patricia Paquin, actress Audrey Roger and former presenter Clodine Desrochers.

This distribution is much stronger and better known than last year. We will remember that the presenter Colette Provencher had confused the chef Jean Michel Leblond, champion of the first season of Chefs de Bois on the Zeste channel, for a technician of the show. This type of blunder won’t be repeated this winter when the episodes of Get Me Out of Here! will splatter our television Sundays.
