This was my second year taking part in the La Liste Awards, which features one of the world’s best selections of restaurants, handpicked by food critics and specialist guides from around the world. An exclusive algorithm calculates a weighted average based on the evaluation of travel guides and international press from more than 30,000 addresses in more than 200 countries.

The event took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Quai D’Orsay near the Invalides in Paris and I was the only Brazilian journalist invited to this glamorous evening in a stunning Art Deco palace.

We were welcomed with a premium cocktail created by several awardwinning chefs and after the ceremony there was a gala dinner also prepared by some awardwinning chefs.

Brazil was represented in two awards: Casa do Porco was named the best restaurant in South America and Brazil, very well represented by the chef Janaína Torres Rueda, who has received this award since 2018. Tássia Magalhães, at the helm of Nelita, received the New Award. For the first time, the Talent of the Year trophy was awarded in a special category.

Among the international winners: Le Bernardin, a French restaurant in NYC under the leadership of Eric Rippert, was ranked No. 1 in the U.S., while the legendary Guy Savoy of Paris took the No. 1 title in France.

There was also a special tribute to legendary chef Bernard Pacault from the traditional L’Ambroisie on Place des Vosges in Paris.

Portugal received the title of new gastronomic destination, represented by the talented chef José Avillez, who also won the award for best restaurant in his country with Belcanto.
